Like every year, 2022 also started with the debut of the high-end Xiaomi: the debut in China of Xiaomi 12 has already happened (we await the Global one) and the same will soon happen with Redmi K50. But many think that Xiaomi is plotting something else, that the surprises for this 2022 did not end here.
And after so much chat from social networks, Xiaomi herself intervened, fomenting these discussions. With a new teaser video published on Weibo, the company’s management has raised the hype about what will be its next flagship.
As expected, Xiaomi’s teaser remains on fairly ambiguous tones, without giving us a real preview of what this new generation top of the range will be. The only detail that is provided to us is what we could call its nickname, which is a super cup. A funny name in China has already been adopted in the past by Xiaomi to indicate the belonging of a top of the range to a higher range.
In some cafes (not surprisingly the place that is the protagonist of the teaser) it is possible to order a coffee or a cappuccino in three sizes: small, medium and large. A parallel that I have chosen on purpose, because if Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro represent the small and medium sizes, the next stop of the range would be the large one: super cup, in fact.
To remove any doubts about what is boiling in the pot there are the latest statements by one of the Xiaomi executives. To be exact, Wang Teng Thomas, explicitly mentioned the unpublished Xiaomi 12U in a video posted on Weibo. Inevitably, the thought goes to Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which has been rumored for some time but whose rumors give us conflicting opinions.
Given that the nickname “super cup” was used on the occasion of models such as Xiaomi 10 Ultra and 11 Ultra, one would think that 2022 will give birth to their natural successor. Also because already last year Xiaomi decided to launch Xiaomi 11 at the end of 2020 / early 2021, which was followed by the Pro and Ultra models in March. All the clues point to Xiaomi 12 Ultra, for which a photographic sector of excellence is promised. At the same time, there are insiders who insist that this smartphone will not be there and that it will be replaced by an unreleased model.
