70-year-old player banned from World of Warcraft because of script-like behavior

As an MMO, it’s no surprise that World of Warcraft fought a long and bloody battle with the script. Recently, a 70-year-old World of Warcraft veteran was banned by Blizzard for behaving like a script. The player’s name is Zanegreen, and he’s an avid fantasy RPG fan who’s been playing World of Warcraft since The Burning Crusade. As a casual player, he spends most of his time poking around for materials, crafting gear and upgrading trumpets.

Unfortunately, World of Warcraft recently identified him as a script and banned him for 6 months. Zanegreen’s son and union partners posted a help thread on the “World of Warcraft” Reddit forum. They said that the recovery application sent to Blizzard was ignored, and the Blizzard customer service and GM who could be contacted said there was nothing they could do.

Zanegreen’s son wrote in the post: He doesn’t talk much in chat either. To outsiders…yes, he looks like a script. But this is just an old man who loves games and world fantasy…he has been playing like this for over a decade. It’s something he really likes to do, especially now that he’s retired. Blizzard isn’t helping at all in dealing with this. At this point, he feels very much about Blizzard and the game dissatisfied.

Fortunately, the story has a happy ending. With the help of Kalviery, a Blizzard representative in the World of Warcraft section of the Reddit forum, Zanegreen’s account was unbanned, and Zanegreen’s son later updated the post to thank the community for their help. The post drew a lot of attention on the Reddit forums, with more than 350 congratulatory comments in less than 24 hours.
