Will Google Pay soon become Google Wallet again?

Google Pay faces a new future once again. The last major conversion has not even reached us to date. A future as a virtual wallet could bring further changes. Google Pay has only existed in its current form since 2018.

In the years before, Google first launched the Google Wallet in 2011 and later introduced Android Pay for smartphones for contactless payment. Later the mentioned merger four years ago. Since then, Google Pay has been in an identity crisis and is now probably facing the next transformation.

For a new future away from your own bank accounts, Google is now planning to offer a pure mobile wallet for Android phones again. For this, high-ranking people have recently been bought, such as Arnold Goldberg from PayPal. Google resets its strategy and works towards a new future. Even cryptocurrencies should then play a role.

Google Pay might not last forever

Bloomberg wrote that Google is planning a real wallet again. We should be able to store currencies and passports of all kinds in it. Which makes it quite realistic that Google could think of a name change again. So, are we on the verge of a comeback for Google Wallet?

As part of the revamp, Google [Pay] will have a stronger focus on being a “comprehensive digital wallet” that includes digital tickets, flight passes and vaccination records.

Google is well known for renaming services from time to time. And Google TV had proven that long-disused designations could celebrate a comeback at a later date.

Google Pay is actually already obsolete

Since the current Google Pay concept does not seem to be believed and is still only offered in the USA, a complete restart would be an option this time. Even today, Google Pay is not necessarily the right term for the entire product, but would rather fit a single function.
