After MagentaGaming was launched in the summer of 2020, Telekom’s game streaming service quickly became quiet. Support for the MagentaTV Stick and Android TV was added. MagentaGaming enables games to be streamed from the cloud without the need for powerful on-site hardware.
Telekom has been extensively testing the service in a beta phase since 2019. Not even two years after the official start, the sudden end: From the end of February 2022, the game streaming platform will be switched off. The company has confirmed this to us.
Affected customers will be informed shortly via e-mail about the further procedure. With a monthly fee of 7 euros for more than 100 games, MagentaGaming could not attract enough users. This is also often said of the likes of Google’s Stadia. In a survey, game streaming services didn’t fare quite as well either.
However, the Game Pass for the Xbox is likely to gain increasing importance. In addition to a wide range of games, which will certainly be polished up again by the takeover of Activision Blizzard, the versatile use in the mobile area, on the PC and the console, should certainly be responsible for this.
