The original Surface Duo finally gets Android 11 update

After missing the 2021 deadline, today Microsoft rolled out the Android 11 update for the original Surface Duo. This update incorporates the January security patch, version 2021.1027.156. Users can download the 2.38GB OTA content by opening the Settings app > System > System Updates.

The original Surface Duo got the following new features in Android 11:

  • When you tap the top button of Surface Slim Pen 2, OneNote can be launched.
  • In the Surface Duo feature, in Settings, you can choose your preference for answering calls when folded.
  • Enabled the Settings to feature in the Surface Duo feature to select specific apps to automatically span two screens when opened.
  • Optimized quick settings and notification width for portrait and landscape orientation.
  • Adjust media volume directly from quick settings in any device mode.
  • Use thumb mode in Microsoft SwiftKey, now all device modes and application states.
  • The updated app drawer and folder design with improved drag and drop support.
  • Redesigned feed design with a new card design and a new start menu widget for News and Weather
  • Photos by OneDrive: A new dual-screen enhanced experience for viewing and editing photos in the OneDrive app.
  • Xbox Game Pass: Discover and play games from the cloud with an on-screen controller. Some equipment, accessories and software are sold separately. Some apps and features require additional fees and/or subscriptions.
  • By opening Settings, then About, then Provide feedback to Microsoft.
