Used car owner in Texas receives Apple AirTags tracking alert, accidentally uncovering car thief conspiracy

According to the latest reports, AirTag is usually related to tracking involving cars in the near future. In Texas, however, Apple AirTag discovered an ongoing car theft. Recently, a used car owner in Texas was getting ready for work when he received an iPhone alert that an AirTag was following him. The driver reported the incident to police and found an AirTag between the seats in the car.

Apple has now brought enhancements to the Find My app, allowing users to scan for items that may be tracking their AirTag or “Find” enabled items. The feature scans everything nearby and lets users know if there are devices nearby that belong to someone else. If an item is detected, Apple provides instructions on how to disable the device so that it is no longer used for tracking.

The owner just bought the used truck with an $800 down payment, the report said. It turns out that the vehicle he purchased was actually stolen by a car thief. Police suspect the VIN has been tampered with and confirm the car has been reported lost.

Investigators determined that the AirTag was most likely installed by car thieves to recover the vehicle. Finally, the actual owner of the truck is also “reunited” with the lost vehicle as a result of the AirTag conspiracy being revealed. However, people who buy used trucks have paid a deposit and have to wait for the thief to be caught by the police.
