Apple’s online user manual teaches users to better protect personal privacy

Apple has produced a new Personal Safety User Guide that explains how its customers can keep themselves and their personal data safe when using AirTags, iPhones and other products. Apple has historically been proactive when it comes to privacy and security.

In its latest website update on Tuesday, Apple is trying to further help its users by educating them about what Apple is doing with security and how they can use existing features to protect themselves.

The guide is a resource for anyone concerned about or experiencing technology-driven abuse, stalking or harassment. The guide says it helps users sever digital ties to those you no longer want to be in touch with, and outlines security features in Apple products. The guidance covers areas including that a user may have given access to personal information to another person, or if someone accessed a user’s device or account and made changes without permission.

In addition to digital safety, the guide also covers location data-related content, including the Find My app. It even includes how to quickly use the SOS mode in applicable devices, and how to automatically tell friends that the user is home safely.

Apple says it will update the guide regularly. It added that the guide also applies primarily to hardware running the latest versions of its operating systems, such as macOS 12.1, iOS 15.2 and iPad OS 15.2, with additional details for other products.
