Windows 10 Build 19044.1503 (KB5009596) released

According to a Microsoft blog post, Windows 10 KB5009596 has been released, and it actually comes with a new feature that can help you migrate to Windows 11. In addition, the Windows 10 optional update comes with a series of general improvements and fixes, including fixes for all Bluetooth devices.

KB5009596 is an optional update that is much more secure than being a Windows Insider Preview. If you’re having issues with your Windows 10 installation, and you don’t want to wait until February’s mandatory “Patch Tuesday” rolls out, you can opt to install this optional update.

The main highlight of the latest optional update is support for a new feature called Sync Your Settings. This backup feature allows you to maintain a list of installed apps in your Microsoft account so you can easily restore those apps after migrating to Windows 11 on the same device or another.

The feature, apparently part of Microsoft’s efforts to transition users to Windows 11, will roll out to everyone in the coming weeks. Also, a bug has been fixed where Get-TPM PowerShell (command to check TPM information for Windows 11) will give an error message “0x80090011”.

Microsoft is updating the News and Interests taskbar widget with new features that will allow users to directly manage their Microsoft Edge profiles. As usual, you can manage your Edge profiles from your browser’s News and Interests tab.

In terms of bug fixes, Windows 10 Build 19044.1503 has fixed an issue where UI Automation could break the Outlook desktop client. Likewise, Microsoft has fixed an issue where Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2) might stop working properly when you enable Fast Startup.

Fixed a bug where some apps could crash when using the pen haptic API. Another error is when the device reports itself as ineligible for conditional access. Also, Microsoft has fixed an issue that could break printing, and if you were using USB on Windows 10 version 2004 or later, the printer would print the wrong output.

Another glitch has been fixed that occurred when playing some surround sound audio in Microsoft Edge, especially when browsing platforms like Netflix. The Windows 10 update also addresses an issue affecting remote desktop screens, especially when your software uses Advanced Video Coding (AVC).

Other bug fixes and improvements included in the update:

  • Internet Explorer has been updated with a new banner that will remind users of its pre-announced retirement schedule.
  • Microsoft fixed a performance issue that caused vpnike.dll and rasmans.dll to deadlock.
  • Microsoft has fixed a critical bug that would crash the operating system with a vague error message IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
