The smartphone on pre-sale for a few hours on the Chinese store JD is definitely curious. It is clearly a copy of the iPhone 13, it is undeniable, but this is not so much the aspect that is worth dwelling on – also because the world is full of clones: it is not the first and it will not even be the last. The smartphone in question, which incorporates the latest addition to Apple in the name, Gionee G13 Pro, is interesting because it integrates the Huawei Mobile Services.
Reading the product sheet of Gionee G13 Pro on the oriental virtual shop, no other indications can be seen, but the translation from Chinese is a significant barrier, so during this presale, all that remains is to limit yourself to the title and subtitle. Which, in fact, advertises the presence of services developed by Huawei to remedy the end of relations with Google forced by the ban of the Trump administration: “HMS ecosystem”, it reads.
Someone familiar with Chinese claims to have read HarmonyOS in the product description, but at present, it is information that “weighs” as much as an indiscretion. However, Huawei has never hidden its intention to make its operating system available to other manufacturers, replicating what Google did with the Android project; so the feeling that Gionee G13 Pro, the smartphone from 75 euros just at the current exchange rate, could be the first non-Huawei smartphone with the Huawei operating system is strong.
After all, the need of the Shenzhen company was clear immediately: to spread the young OS as much as possible, so as to quickly remove it from the inevitable whims related to the youth of the project and understand how to move in the rest of the world, where Huawei has lost a lot of ground on the competition (unlike in previous years, for example, it does not figure in the 2021 ranking of the top producers in the world drawn up by Canalys). We are awaiting official confirmations, which for the moment are in hiding.
