Today Microsoft released the Windows 11 Build 22543.1000 update to the Dev preview channel. This update brings several new features, fixes a bug that caused the task manager to crash, and more.
Narrator voice is more natural
Microsoft’s update provides a more natural voice for the “Narrator” feature. This function can be used offline after downloading and can convert text into speech to help users browse web pages and read articles. The new English voice provides “Jenny” and “Aria”, and users can install it by themselves.
New Narrator keyboard commands:
To facilitate the use of this feature, Microsoft has added several keyboard shortcuts:
- Narrator key + Alt + “-“: move to the previous voice in the Narrator voice combo box
- Narrator key + Alt + “+”: move to the next voice in the Narrator voice combo box
- Narrator key + Alt + “[“: move to the previous punctuation mark
- Narrator key + Alt + “]”: move to the previous punctuation position
The “Narrator” key is specified by the user and can be set as a caps lock key or an Insert key. To turn on the Narrator function, you can press the shortcut key “Win+Ctrl+Enter” to turn it on.
New lock screen media playback controls
This update of Win11 makes the media playback controls of the lock screen interface support the background color changing with the theme. When the background of the lock screen interface is dark, the background color of the controls will also be adjusted to the dark.
The window layout is more convenient
Microsoft has optimized the experience when the window is quickly laid out. Users can drag the divider to adjust, and other windows will be displayed as frosted glass, with the application icon in the center. Use the shortcut key Win+Alt+K to perform the voice mute function, and now a more specific popup will pop up showing the mute application.
This update of Win11 Dev 22543.1000 also improves the input method switcher and provides an acrylic translucent background style. During the full system upgrade, the animation of the progress ring has also changed, which is consistent with the animation when the system is started.
In this update, the System > Storage > Disks and Volumes menu in Settings has also been adjusted to be consistent with the Win11 style. Certain properties can also be used and adjusted directly in the software without having to click on the entry and proceed.

- Fixed the bug that the program would freeze and crash after clicking the “Performance” tab in the Task Manager.
- Volume and sound card hardware indicators now show volume levels for different sound cards in a popup.
- Fixed an issue where certain characters were not allowed when naming a PC in OOBE.
- Fixed a crash in OneNote when opening pages with built-in PDFs.
- Resolved an issue where the system UI became unresponsive after the display HDR function was turned on.
File Explorer:
- Fixed an issue where dragging and dropping files from an open archive to another directory could cause explorer.exe to crash.
- In the context menu, the Ctrl+Shift+C shortcut next to Copy Path is displayed.
Enter the question:
- Fixed a bug that caused the cursor to disappear unexpectedly in some applications.
- Fixed a crash when opening the input method switcher in quick settings.
- Solved the problem that the candidate window is unexpectedly lost when the Simplified Chinese input method is selected in User Personalization > Text Input.
Mission Board:
- Fixed an issue where two up arrows would appear on the show hidden icons button
- Fixed an issue where the taskbar date and timelines were not aligned.
Set up:
- Resolved an issue that caused Settings to get stuck and not launch.
- Fixed a bug that if the user chose to turn off the system startup sound, the setting would be restored after a system update.
- The fixed icon in notifications shows if you chose to postpone completing device installation.
- Tabs in Quick Settings no longer focus on invisible elements.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the media controls above the Quick Settings to not appear on the screen.
Window:
- The underline of the active desktop in the task view can now change according to the system theme color, instead of a uniform blue.
- Resolved a crash in the DWM desktop window manager in recent preview releases.
