Google phones: If you want a Pixel 4a, you should wait for the Pixel 6a

Google wanted to carry the Pixel 4a through a second year, but could hardly deliver. Now the end is near and so is the successor in the form of the Pixel 6a. Just be patient.

Last year, Google had already discontinued the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5. As a rule, Google devices are usually only built for one year, sometimes even shorter. If a newer model is there, the priorities are immediately changed. The cheaper Pixel 4a stayed with us, although that’s only half the truth.

Pixel 4a survived longer but is now hard to come by

For some time now, the Pixel 4a has been the only device listed on Google’s homepage alongside the Pixel 6 smartphones. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to obtain for months now. Not in free trade and not directly with Google. Other sold-out devices like the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have long been completely removed from the Google Store.

Remnants: Pixel 4a now costs 200 euros more

The Pixel 4a will certainly soon be able to do the latter. On the one hand, there is probably no replenishment of new devices and on the other hand, the successor is just around the corner. Last year’s Pixel 5a didn’t make it to Europe, so the Pixel 4a stuck around for an unusually long time. It should be better again with the Pixel 6a, which is probably planned for next May.

If you don’t want to buy a used device, I advise you to wait and see. Hold out for a few more months and save more euros so that you can then buy the Pixel 6a. Actually, I had recently recommended the Pixel 4a again and again. But the smartphone from 2020 has really slowly become obsolete apart from the poor availability.
