Google is experimenting with the Google Lens in web search

The Google Lens is a nice tool that I like to use on my smartphone – for example for quick translations of texts from information signs abroad. Google is now experimenting with integrating the lens into web searches on the desktop.

The Google Lens should then appear next to the microphone in the search field. If you click on the appropriate icon, you can search images with Google Lens. This works by uploading images, whereupon the usual interface of the tool appears.

In the example, an image from League of Legends was uploaded, whereupon the Google Lens started with a suitable search. On the left you can see the uploaded image, at the top right there are knowledge panels that match the content and below that there are matching matches.

Currently, the Google Lens for desktop web search is not yet widely distributed. I haven’t seen anything from her yet. Apparently, Google wants to achieve that the user experience of the Google search is as identical as possible across all platforms. In Chrome, after right-clicking on an image, there is the option “Send the image to Google Lens”, so integration into web search is only logical.
