Microsoft Teams will introduce compact mode: You can see 50% more information

Microsoft Teams for Windows 10/11 and macOS is introducing a new compact mode for a personal chat. The new compact mode lets you see 50% more information, making it easier for users to multitask while chatting with others in Microsoft Teams.

This feature is designed for desktops and laptops with large screens, where it’s easy to see 50% more information on the screen. According to the roadmap, Microsoft isn’t planning to add a compact mode to chat in the Android and iOS versions of Teams, but you can expect similar improvements in the web version.

This should be a welcome update for desktop users, but there’s a catch: Teams’ new compact mode is only available for personal chats (you won’t be able to see more in the channel). To enable the feature, you’ll need to open Microsoft Teams Settings > General > Chat Density and select “Compact” instead of Comfortable.

As you can see in the screenshot above, Microsoft Teams’ new compact UI is fairly dense, and it includes support for formatting options. Additionally, you can still react to messages or tap the “pop-up chat” feature of Microsoft Teams. According to a notification in the Microsoft 365 admin center, the compact mode for chat will begin rolling out in mid-February.
