Lately, the Mountain View company has neglected the Google Duo app a bit, preferring to devote time and resources to Google Meet, but now a couple of new features are in development.

Google Duo experiments with Breakout Rooms

Analyzing the code related to the APK file of the latest version 159.0.425779378 of the Google Duo app, the XDA team found textual references to the Breakout rooms feature which seems to offer the possibility of dividing people into small groups.

This is a useful feature when hosting large meetings, where for example teachers can divide students into small groups for collaboration on projects, discussions and more in online classrooms.

It looks like the Google Duo app will be next to receive this feature, as most video conferencing services like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet offer workgroup rooms.

The telltale strings suggest that Google Duo will allow meeting hosts to create workgroup rooms, and attendees will see a dialog box informing them when sessions are in progress and when they are finished.

Google Duo tests live streaming and video conference recording

Other new strings contained in the programming code suggest that Google Duo could add the ability to live stream and record a video conference.

Google Duo will show a persistent message informing you that the meeting is being streamed and recorded, also displaying the name of the participant who started the live.

Meeting rooms and the ability to live stream and record meetings are features that are still under development and have not yet been rolled out to Google Duo users.
