Samsung rumored to release Windows app to turn Galaxy Tab S tablet into a secondary display

According to leaker Aggiornamenti Lumia, Samsung will announce a new Windows app called “Second Screen” that enables some Galaxy Tab S tablets to function as secondary displays. However, the leaker offered no other details about the new app, other than which devices it will support.

If the grapevine is to be believed, the “Second Screen” app will require a Galaxy Book laptop with Windows 10 2004 or later, and in addition to the Galaxy Book, the following dual-screen capable tablets:

  • Galaxy Tab S8
  • Galaxy Tab S8 Plus
  • Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra
  • Galaxy Tab S7
  • Galaxy Tab S7 Plus
  • Galaxy Tab S7 FE

It’s worth noting, however, that Galaxy Book laptops already have a feature called “Second Screen” that lets Galaxy Tab S owners wirelessly set up their tablet as an extra display.

The feature also mirrors the Galaxy Book as a Galaxy tablet, allowing users to take advantage of the S Pen. A new app Samsung will release is rumored to do just that, but it’s less clear if it will require a wireless connection.

As the leaker mentioned, the new second screen app will only be available to Galaxy Book owners. So if you have one of the supported Galaxy Tab S tablets, but no Galaxy Book, you’ll have to look for other third-party solutions.

Samsung isn’t the only company offering the feature. In 2019, Apple introduced a new feature in macOS Catalina called Sidecar that lets Mac users extend their computer display to the iPad. A year later, Samsung took inspiration from Apple and came up with the second screen feature.

While not confirmed, Samsung may demo the app at the Unpacked event, where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series.
