Tesla Roadster, new development information

The new generation of the Tesla Roadster was presented in 2017 with the promise that it would arrive in 2020. As we know, since the presentation the automaker had begun to accept reservations for its supercar which on paper should offer very high performance. Over time, however, the debut was progressively postponed with Elon Musk who had come to say, at one point, that the new electric supercar was not a priority for his company.

Recently, the CEO, speaking of the company’s new product roadmap, highlighted that Tesla will not debut any new model in 2022. This obviously also applies to the new Roadster, which could perhaps arrive in 2023. Waiting to know when this car will finally hit the road, comes a small but interesting update on its development from Franz von Holzhausen, head of design at Tesla.

Franz von Holzhausen, first of all, confirms that Tesla is working on this model even though he would like it to be possible to proceed more quickly. In any case, the head of design points out that in this period they have learned a lot, especially thanks to the new Plaid platform (three-engine powertrain) which debuted on the Model S and Model X and which had to be present on the new Roadster.

Everything learned in this time will allow us to create a much better Roadster than the one shown at the time of its debut several years ago. And thanks to the much-talked-about Space X package, it will be able to offer truly high performance.

We are working on the Roadster. I would like us to work faster, but I also wanted to say that, in the time we have developed the project, we have also learned a lot. Plaid is a great learning platform. All of those experiences will return to a much better Roadster than the one we launched right after its debut.

Tesla, therefore, will bring to the new Roadster an evolution of the powertrain of the Plaid version of the Model S and Model X. We hope to know more soon. Will it really arrive in 2023? Musk has made it clear what the company’s priorities are about him and this suggests that the Roadster’s debut may slip again. All that remains is to wait for further communications from the car manufacturer.
