Microsoft informed users earlier today that the 20H2 version of Windows 10 — also known as the October 2020 Update — will reach the end of service in May of this year, May 10, to be precise. Microsoft publicly released this feature update in September 2020, which brought a slew of improvements.

This affects all Windows 10 20H2 editions such as Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Workstation Pro. Microsoft is encouraging those still running Windows 10 version 20H2 to update to the next feature update.

The full text of the announcement is as follows:

These versions will no longer receive security updates after May 10, 2022, and customers contacted after this date will be directed to update their devices to the latest version of Windows 10 to maintain support.

Microsoft also recently said that it is forcing eligible 20H2 devices to update to Windows 10 21H2 via a self-developed ML update model and that Windows 10 20H2 users’ computers may have been updated without even noticing the change.

If it still doesn’t update if it’s eligible, Microsoft explains it’s because the computer’s internet connection isn’t enough.
