Tesla officially opens all charging stations to other Dutch EV brands, requires adapters

According to the latest reports, electric car maker Tesla has officially opened all of its charging stations in the Netherlands to other electric vehicles, which means that any brand of electric cars can be supercharged in Tesla’s Station charging.

Tesla officially launched a pilot program for non-Tesla electric vehicles to be charged at Tesla charging stations in November 2021. The program gives Dutch drivers the opportunity to charge their non-Tesla electric vehicles at 10 Tesla charging stations. The project has since expanded to other locations, including France, Norway, Germany and Belgium.

However, the scope of these charging plans is still limited. Tesla announced earlier on Monday that it would expand the pilot program, with all charging stations in the Netherlands now available for all non-Tesla electric vehicles. According to Tesla’s Supercharger map, the company has 54 Supercharger stations in the Netherlands.

Electric car drivers simply download the Tesla app and have a CCS connector in their car to use Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Tesla expects to eventually allow EV drivers to access more European charging stations and use the new revenue to speed up the expansion of its charging network.

Tesla is expected to do the same in North America, but the situation in the region is more complicated because Tesla uses its own proprietary plug, not the CCS standard. Non-Tesla EV drivers will need an adapter to use existing Supercharger stations.

Tesla said it will open more of its charging stations at other locations, but the condition of those sites depends on the availability of vehicles. “We started with a few selected stations so we could assess the experience, monitor congestion and get feedback before expanding,” the company said in a statement. “Additional charging stations in the future will only be available if there is redundancy in charging capacity.” Will be open to non-Tesla vehicles.”

Tesla’s vast supercharger infrastructure is the most powerful in the world and was recently ranked the second-best in the United States. Tesla has more than 30,000 charging stations around the world.
