Next-generation HomePod smart speaker may have information display screen

Although Apple has yet to make an official announcement, the Siri voice assistant appears to have been revealed to some HomePod owners — a new smart speaker with a screen could be coming soon.

After discontinuing the original HomePod last year, Apple has been highly mum on its plans for the next generation, leaving consumers with the HomePod mini as the only option.

Interestingly, Apple’s own voice assistant, Siri, doesn’t seem to have received a “gap notification.” Reddit netizen u/totalsoda pointed out:

As ScreenRant discovered, Siri keeps telling them — the answers to related questions will be ‘displayed’ on your HomePod — meaning the new smart speaker will have more than just an array of colored lights for conversations.

At first, some people thought that this might just be Siri’s bug routine, but many people thought that Apple was secretly developing new products, and was inadvertently spoiled by Siri.

It’s unclear when the next-gen HomePod will arrive, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of it. As early as last year, Bloomberg reported that it was in the early stages of development.

It’s not hard to imagine that this new product will be equipped with an information display screen similar to the Google Nest Hub, or the Amazon Echo Show, and can be used in combination with the new Apple TV set-top box.
