Google’s little spy can now do more: the phone app records all phone calls

Google is expanding the still fairly new call recording feature of its own phone app for Android. A while ago, Google integrated a new call recording into its own phone app. However, this was initially limited to the known telephone numbers of the users.

This is changing with the latest update. Now all calls can be recorded. But: Unfortunately, to our disadvantage, the latest update does not change that “Call Recording” is still not available in Germany.

The latter is probably just an issue of the lack of translation since whenever a call is recorded, both parties are notified of the recording by a computer voice. So Google’s “little spy” isn’t very good at eavesdropping on our conversations undetected. Google essentially offers the function so that we can listen to phone calls again later as a reminder.

Phone app: Google expands call recording

From now on it is possible that absolutely all calls are automatically recorded. Even with foreign phone numbers that are not stored in your address book. For this purpose, the user can decide whether all calls to other numbers should even be recorded automatically.

Google passes the applicable legal regulations on to the user. Nevertheless, the mentioned notification with every call, as the help text of the app reveals. The latter should actually also enable the function for the German market. Has been known to be typical of hotline calls for years.

“You or the other person in your call may be in a place where everyone needs to agree to the recording. Everyone will be informed in advance that the call will be recorded. It is up to you to obey the laws regarding the recording of conversations. Recordings are only stored on your phone.”

So far, Google has not given any information as to whether call recording is also planned for other markets. Do we have to sit out as usual. The function is not exclusively limited to Pixel smartphones.
