Meta says its VR platform has grown tenfold since December

Horizon Worlds, the main social VR platform for Meta’s Oculus Quest headset, has grown tenfold since December. Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, said Horizon Worlds has grown to 300,000 monthly active users since it launched in the U.S. and Canada in early December.

A company spokesperson confirmed that this figure includes Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, an independent live event VR app. Horizon Worlds first launched in 2019 when it was named Facebook Horizon, Oculus’ social platform. Users can create their own virtual busts and can build their own custom worlds.

Earlier this week, Meta announced that it has built 10,000 virtual worlds so far, and its Facebook creator groups number more than 20,000. The community is still growing at a solid rate, though the number of users cannot grow by leaps and bounds due to the need for Oculus Quest devices.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously said that Meta plans to bring Horizon Worlds to mobile phones later in 2022 to expand its user base.
