Tesla Model 3 becomes the highest-producing electric car in the US history

On February 18th, Tesla Model 3 ranked first in the American Manufacturing Index (AMI), becoming the first pure electric car to top the list in the website’s 16-year history, and Musk tweeted directly. This is the most produced car in America. In addition, on Wednesday, Musk tweeted to remind U.S. President Biden that the Tesla Model 3 is the car that best meets Biden’s “Made in America” requirements.

The move was in response to a tweet from Biden last week about electrifying the federal government’s vehicles, providing more manufacturing jobs, and building supply chains in the United States.

“We’re making ‘Buy American’ a reality – not just a promise,” Biden tweeted.

The latest annual survey results show “ranking the new vehicles that contribute the most to the U.S. economy” based on U.S. factory jobs, manufacturing plants and parts purchases.

In 2021, the Tesla Model 3 ranks first, which means the most to the U.S. economy, and the Tesla Model Y enters the list and ranks third.

And, Tesla is the only automaker that claims all vehicles it sells in the U.S. are 100% domestically produced, well above the industry average of roughly 52% for 2021 models.

Before that, Musk had repeatedly criticized the Biden administration for deliberately ignoring Tesla’s contributions and focusing only on established U.S. automakers such as GM and Ford.

Earlier this month, however, Biden mentioned Tesla by name in a public speech for the first time in a year, acknowledging its status as the largest U.S. automaker.
