Google Photos users can use the Reminders feature to keep reminding them of past events captured in pictures and uploaded to the cloud. The feature should be quite popular, but sometimes there may be images and memories there that you really didn’t want to recall. This can be adjusted in just a few steps.
Google Photos Reminders has launched a long time ago as a clone of the Stories features found on many social platforms. But with Google Photos, the images are not uploaded in a targeted manner and are not visible to other users, but only a private review in the familiar format.
The algorithms keep bringing out new memories, some of which date back several years, sometimes just a few weeks, or simply depict certain automatically recognized events.
Usually, they are very nice memories and many users should actually look at them again and again. But there can also be memories that you have buried very deep in your memory for a good reason. Of course, you could simply delete pictures of ugly moments or people you no longer want to see.
However, that’s always a thing, because some things you might just want to keep for later and not delete. But maybe you also have a person or a period that you don’t want to see now, but maybe nice again in the future. Whatever the reason, Google Photos offers two handy filter functions that can be used to exclude any person or time period.
This is how you can hide people
- Open Google Photos and go to settings
- Now look for the “Memories” area and open it
- Now select the item “Hide people and pets”
- Now select all the people and animals that you do not want to see in the memories
- Now click “Done” and the filter will be active for all future reminders
This is how you can hide time periods
- Open Google Photos and go to settings
- Now look for the “Memories” area and open it
- Now select the item “Hide specific calendar dates”
- Now select the start date and end date of the period that you do not want to see in the reminders
- Now click “Done” and the filter will be active for all future reminders
Of course, you can withdraw these filters at any time and let the algorithms draw on their full potential again. Please note that in order to hide people, it is necessary for them to be recognized in the images.
So maintain the face database and be understanding if the person suddenly appears in a picture that is difficult to recognize. For example with a face covering, only from the side or from behind.
