Drop test shows Galaxy S22 series more fragile than iPhone 13 series

According to a drop test conducted by the company Allstate Protection Plans, Samsung Galaxy S22 devices are more likely to be damaged in drop tests than Apple’s iPhone 13 series models. Allstate does the same set of drop tests for major new smartphone releases to determine the level of damage to the front, back and sides when the device is dropped, and the results suggest that the iPhone is designed to be more durable.

When dropped face down, the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra’s screens shattered the first time they were dropped from 6 feet onto the sidewalk, and two of the three were unable to due to the severity of the damage used. The S22 is usable, but there is visible damage on the corners.

Relatively speaking, when Allstate Protection Plans dropped test iPhone 13 models in September, they fared better. In the face-down drop test, the iPhone 13 survived one drop with minor damage, breaking in the second drop test. The bottom of the iPhone 13 Pro is cracked, but both phones are basically usable.

In the face-down test, the Galaxy S22 devices all had their backs shattered, and while all three phones continued to function normally and the camera housing remained intact, it was impossible to safely operate the phone due to broken glass.

In a comparison test of the iPhone 13 models, the iPhone 13 withstood two drops, with minor cracks along with the camera and corners after the third drop, while the iPhone 13 Pro’s back glass shattered More similar to the S22 device.

Allstate did a side test of the S22 model and saw that the S22 and S22+ survived minor damage, while the curved glass S22 Ultra shattered in the corners and along with the display. All smartphones remain functional.

The S22 Ultra has a curved display, so it takes more damage on the sides than Apple’s iPhone. All in all, the S22 appears to be easier to break than Apple’s iPhone 13 models, which use Apple’s “ceramic shield,” which is said to be more durable than traditional glass. Samsung’s S22 devices use Gorilla Glass Victus+, Corning’s most durable glass.
