Wear OS 3 is unfinished: Google Assistant and Smarthome are still missing

When I look at the clock I see the last hours before the new month. When March arrives, we’re only two months away from seeing Wear OS 3’s debut a full year ago. In these twelve months after the Wear OS 3 release, so little has happened that it is hard to imagine. This raises the question of how seriously Google actually takes the topic after its big announcements.

In any case, it must be said that there is still no new watch with Wear OS 3. It’s still the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to choose from if you want a new smartwatch with up-to-date specs and software. But there’s a catch here, too, because the only current Wear OS watch actually gets by without the Google Assistant. But that’s not up to Samsung, as we now know.

Google’s newly developed and much better assistant will only come sometime in the next few months. The previous version does not want to or cannot be provided on Wear OS 3. As a result, you only get the latest smartwatch operating system without one of the most important Google apps. And that’s not all, I’m still missing a Google-provided control unit for my smart home.

Pixel Watch gives hope and impatience

The latter is only possible if you use software from other providers. Granted, that’s no big deal. But somehow not what I expect from Google if the group wants to be an all-around provider in this area. Especially since Android 11 has shown on the phones that an easily accessible smart home operation that is integrated into the system is possible. I hope they improve with the Pixel Watch at the latest.
