Edge on Windows will introduce a new feature: Detect performance issues

Microsoft Edge browser for Windows 10/11 runs faster. When users open too many tabs with features such as sleep tabs disabled, it may slow down the browser. To help users better understand performance issues, Microsoft is developing a performance detector.

This new feature detects performance issues and informs Windows proposing reasonable solutions this feature is in addition to the built-in productivity mode of the Edge browser. With Efficiency Mode, Microsoft plans to optimize network performance and responsiveness, which can be achieved by reducing CPU, memory, and battery usage.

The feature uses a built-in sleep mode to address performance issues and benefit those running multiple browser tabs alongside other apps or games. Performance Detector can detect performance issues caused by open tabs, extensions, etc.

When this feature is turned on, the browser detects performance issues with tabs and recommends an action to fix, Microsoft states on Edge Canary’s settings page. It’s unclear how the feature works, but it’s possible that Edge will notify users when a tab is actively using resources, and disable features like sleeping tabs.

Likewise, Microsoft Edge will detect potential problems with the browser’s extensions and other features and recommend actions to users. Microsoft doesn’t make changes to the browser and only provides suggestions to users, which means users can enable or disable suggested features.

Microsoft is testing a new full-screen mode button for Edge. A new full-screen mode can be enabled from the PDF browsing screen, and Edge’s latest feature hides the toolbar and fits the document to fill the screen.
