Chrome 100 Beta: Improved window placement in multi-screen scenarios

Google sends Chrome 100 into the beta and also has a few innovations ready. You can also read the explanations in detail in the official Chromium blog. First of all, it is very exciting to read that a new “Multi-Screen Window Placement API” is being introduced for the desktop version.

This makes it possible for users to assign their Chrome windows to specific screens. This can also be very useful for applications in which you want to place windows particularly precisely for the best overview. You also add details in the code that now allows you to specify on which screen Chrome starts in full-screen mode.

Google then also describes several scenarios in which the new API could be helpful: For example, if you run a presentation on a projector and then display notes for the speaker on the notebook. Also, tools for e.g. Image and video editing, for example, could then display the content to be edited on one screen and outsource the tools to another screen.

Chrome 100 also introduces new Origin Trials. As a user, you can test new functions in advance and then give feedback to Google. But Microsoft Edge, which is also based on Chromium, also has its own Origin Trials. The Media Source Extensions (MSE) API is currently being offered. It improves performance when playing media in the main window buffering in an HTMediaElement.
