Samsung applies for Flap Leather Cover trademark

On the 3rd of this month, Samsung Electronics submitted a trademark application called Flap Leather Cover to the UK Intellectual Property Organization (UKIPO). The application is classified as Class 9 and described as: Flip Holster for Mobile Phones; Flip Holster for Smartphones. Based on the trademark description, this is a flip holster for smartphones, and it should be for high-end phones.

The word “Flap” here seems to refer to a chest that can be opened. This will mean that the front of the phone is also protected. Samsung already has a leather case in its lineup, but this one only protects the back of the device.

It’s still unclear which phone models the flip holster will work with. It’s possible that Samsung will launch this flip cover when new Galaxy A-series phones — like the Galaxy A53 and Galaxy A33 — are released. Earlier this week, the Galaxy A13, A23, M23 and M33 were quietly announced.

It’s not hard to imagine that it will be a while before this optional accessory is officially launched. Finally, the Leather Cover that is already on the market is a relatively expensive premium mobile phone case. If the flip holster becomes an additional premium variant, it’s likely to be used on more expensive phone models as well.
