The news doesn’t seem surprising. The days of the Intel-based iMac have been numbered since Apple announced it would switch to its own chips. Although Apple launched the 24-inch M1 version of the iMac last spring, the 27-inch Intel-based iMac is still an option for users who want a large-screen computer, because of Apple’s large-screen display, the Pro XDR Display is too expensive.

However, after Apple introduced the 27-inch Studio Display today, the 27-inch Intel-based iMac is no longer necessary. The 27-inch iMac isn’t Apple’s last desktop computer with Intel chips, though. Apple still keeps the Intel-based Mac Pro and Mac mini.
