The new Android 12.1 also brings innovations that are not in the changelog or announced by Google. The well-known experts first have to take a look at the source code again. In fact, an improvement for the Google Assistant could be found, which the developers describe in an interesting way. An already familiar interface is now even stronger than before.
Google Assistant can better understand the context from other apps
Refreshed interfaces allow the “Next Gen Assistant”, which is only available on some Pixel smartphones, ” more powerful use of the assistance service since the service can track which activities are opened in an app. This allows the assistant to listen for changes in visible activity and provide actionable context on what the user is actually doing in an app.”
According to this code change, Google is using new APIs in Android 12L to improve how Assistant tracks activity changes within an app. This will “enable more voice-oriented in-app user journeys.”

With the latest innovations, Google has made it possible for Google Assistant to interact directly with other apps even better. The developers themselves write of “more language-oriented in-app user journeys”. Things are already part of it today, such as the new voice input from the Pixel 6 smartphones, which makes it possible to enter text, but also to format, edit and send messages in apps like WhatsApp. That’s pretty awesome, today’s voice typing.
Maybe Google will come up with more concrete examples in the foreseeable future and work more closely with other app developers. In any case, there had not yet been any announcements in this direction.
