Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Teardown: Ordinary users are more difficult to repair

After going through “regular” durability testing, YouTuber JerryRigEverything disassembles the Galaxy S22 Ultra again in the latest video. In the teardown video, the channel’s anchor Zack Nelson highlights the waterproof function of the compartment for the dedicated slot for the S Pen.

After separating the back panel from the frame by cutting the adhesive, he noticed that both the glass panel and its camera punch were permanently attached. If one of the glass camera lenses breaks, it will require a full replacement of the rear panel to fix it.

After removing the wireless charging coil and the board covers for the upper and lower boards, he showed off some speaker components and USB-C port gaskets that help with waterproofing.

After showing off the huge quad-camera assembly and showing what’s behind the motherboard, he pointed out that Samsung used too much adhesive to keep the battery in place. He needs to drip isopropyl alcohol into the battery compartment to loosen the battery. Other OEMs don’t use as much glue, and even Apple uses pull tabs to make the battery replacement process easier.

In terms of the dedicated S Pen slot, it’s covered by a thick plastic sheet that’s sealed with glue to keep water out of the phone’s interior while allowing it to enter the silo. At the top of the channel is a coil that charges the S Pen’s capacitance.

After reassembly, the phone didn’t turn on immediately but then found that the display wire was slightly cut by the blade when separating the glue from the backplate. Experienced experts like Zack Nelson have problems in disassembly and assembly, and ordinary users can imagine the difficulty of repairing them at home.
