Android Feature Drop: Updates for Assistant, Google TV, Photos, Gboard, Messages and more

There’s no other way to put it, the latest update for the Android platform is incredibly well-positioned. Google surprises this week with an incredible number of extensive updates for Google Pixel and Android in general. This time there is a feature drop for Android, which means that more users will benefit and not only the owners of current Pixel phones.

Google updates seven of its own apps at once

Google Photos

Bokeh is the name of the background blur for photos that Google is now offering for more photos and objects in its Photos app. Google One subscribers can now apply the portrait effects to older photos, and more subjects/objects (animals, ice cream, flowers, etc.) are recognized better.

Gboard

In the run-up, it was already indicated that the grammar check (underlined in blue) in the Gboard will be activated for more and more devices. This is officially happening now. At the same time, the new text stickers will be added to the app, which we have already presented to you.

Google Messages

Google has officially announced that Messages can now correctly display reactions received from iMessage in the Android app. Also, it’s now official that Messages is getting a smart shared inbox, pending reply reminders, automatic deletion of one-time passwords, and Google Photos integration.

Google Assistant

This is also nice, but not available from us yet. Google Assistant can now pay for parking tickets and remind you when you park in the US. Google works with the relevant companies to do this.

Live Subtitles

Automatically transcribing audio is one of the great strengths of the Google tool. Now the live subtitles should also work better offline and no longer require an internet connection. For this, however, the appropriate language packs must be downloaded to the device.

Google TV for Android

Google’s TV app for Android phones has a new highlight function that informs you, for example, about the latest articles about actors, series and films. Basically, Google News is castrated to movies and series for users of Google TV.

Nearby Sharing

Last but not least, Google is expanding the capabilities of Nearby Sharing. The latest update makes it possible for you to send files to multiple devices at the same time. It is still limited to Android and Chrome OS.
