Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a don’t get along very well with the March update

Google has historically had a very important strength in software, but some flaws with new updates can always happen and the latest, very rich, update – Android 12L, Feature Drop and security patch of March 2022 – testifies to it: after its installation, several users of Google Pixel 5 and earlier models are having some problems with the fingerprint sensor.

Google Pixel 5, 4a, 4a 5G: The March 2022 Post-Update Issue

The official changelog of the latest update released by Google for its Pixels – readable in full in our article – does not mention any news regarding the fingerprint sensor of previous-generation models, merely reporting ” General improvements for fingerprint sensor stability & performance ” for Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro only.

In spite of this, however, reports are multiplying by users who find an unjustified slowness in certain contexts of use. The testimony of these Reddit users corresponds perfectly to our experience with Google Pixel 5: if the smartphone screen is off, unlocking with the fingerprint takes place unusually slow, taking about 2 seconds; from the lock screen, therefore with the screen on, unlocking with the fingerprint is lightning-fast, even faster than before; in essence, at present, less time is wasted turning on the screen before unlocking the smartphone, but the situation is not ideal.

According to our direct experience and user comments, the models affected by the problem in question are Google Pixel 5, Google Pixel 4a, Google Pixel 4a 5G, Google Pixel 5a, Google Pixel 3a. Put simply, a bit of all Made by Google smartphones with a physical fingerprint sensor on the back of the device.

While waiting for a fix or at least an official response from Google, tell us in the comments if you own one of the smartphones listed and if you too have had this problem after the March update.
