The US electric car sales in January reveal four Tesla models in top 10

Tesla’s dominance in the U.S. electric vehicle space continues. Tesla’s Model Y, Model 3 and Model S dominated the top three U.S. electric vehicle registrations in January, and its top two models accounted for more than 60% of total EV sales in the first month of 2022. The Model X was ninth on the January list.

About 50,380 electric vehicles entered the hands of U.S. customers in January, according to the latest data from Experian and Automotive News. While automakers such as Ford, Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Kia and others are adopting electric powertrains and accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the US electric vehicle overlord is Tesla.

The Model Y was the nation’s best-selling electric vehicle in January, with 18,549 units sold. The Model 3 came in second, while Tesla’s flagship sedan, the Model S, had cumulative sales of 3,903 units. The Model Y accounts for 36.8% of all-electric vehicle sales in the U.S., while the Model 3 accounts for 27%. Tesla’s two economy models combined accounted for about 63.8% of total electric vehicle sales in January.

  • Others – 4438 vehicles
  • Total – 50384 vehicles
