Google Pixel: March update causes problems with Google Pay

Contactless payment only works smoothly if all the certifications in the background match. This is probably no longer the case for some Pixel users after they have installed the latest system update (March 2022) on their smartphones. Something is wrong with the Google Play certification here, the devices report. This problem means that contactless payment is no longer usable.

So far, this error has primarily appeared from users with Pixel models from Pixel 5 and older. The background to this is that Google is not yet officially offering the March update for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Delayed again. Hopefully, the bug will be fixed by the time the update rolls out, which we assume will be the case at this point.

Google Pixel with Google Pay problems: beta update can help, but should be installed with caution

If you have the latest phones and are already using Android 12 QPR 3 Beta 1, the errors could also occur. Which they haven’t done with me, for example. A good sign. In fact, an upgrade to the newer beta should also help the other devices to avoid the error. But then you’re on your way to a beta firmware by June.

Google has not yet commented but is likely to investigate the cases.
