Firefox 98.0.1 released: Yandex and Mail.ru removed

On Monday, Mozilla released Firefox 98.0.1. “Yandex and Mail.ru have been removed as optional search providers in the Firefox drop-down search menu. All other versions of the Firefox browser remain unaffected by this change,” reads the changelog.

The log continues: “If you previously installed a custom version of the Firefox browser with Yandex or Mail.ru from a partner distribution channel, this version will remove those custom versions, including add-ons and default bookmarks. Where applicable In this case, your browser will revert to the default settings provided by Mozilla”.

These changes will affect any Firefox browsers marked as published by Yandex, Mail.ru or OK.ru. The move comes less than a week after the browser maker released Firefox 98. The biggest change in this version is an overhaul of the download experience. In terms of real-world impact, the one that stands out to me is the need to point my browser to the non-standard directory I use to download files.
