Fossil: Waiting time for update for Google Wear OS 3 is really bad

Do you remember? Google introduced the new Wear OS almost a year ago. Together with Samsung, the biggest update to date for the smartwatch platform was developed. Wear OS was released in the new version of Wear OS 3. Although one has to be careful when one speaks of “released”. Because so far, the new Wear OS is only available for a single smartwatch.

Wear OS 3: Big update with a long wait

That’s not changing anytime soon. It has long been clear that the waiting time for Wear OS 3 updates for existing devices is enormous. This even applies to newer smartwatches like the Fossil Gen 6 series. When asked, Fossil has now confirmed again that Wear OS 3 will actually only be available as an update for existing devices around the second half of 2022.

Interesting, because by then the next new Samsung watch – the Galaxy Watch 5 – could already be official. To us it sounds even more like the long wait is due to an exclusive contract with Samsung. Of course, it’s not official.

However, Samsung has given up its own Tizen for smartwatches for its involvement in Wear OS. To date, this exclusive treatment has not ensured a fair market. Maybe that will end this year.
