Meta plans to hire 2,000 employees in Spain

Facebook’s parent company Meta said on Tuesday that it will hire 2,000 employees in Spain over the next five years and finalize the company’s local development plan.

Javier Olivan, vice president for Metaverse-related products and infrastructure, said after a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid, Spain, that the 2,000 planned hires will be primarily for the company. Work at the first “lab” in Madrid, which is also the flexible work base that Meta provides for telecommuters.

Spain is expected to be an important part of Meta’s growth in the European market, as the company’s two submarine cables linking the European region with the Americas and Africa will land in Spain. Meta also plans to build a data center in Castile-La Mancha in central Spain. Olivine also said that Meta will partner with local telecommunications company Telefonica to set up a Metaverse Innovation Center.
