Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 macOS version 17.0 preview 7 released

According to the latest report, a month ago, Microsoft announced Visual Studio 2022 for Mac Preview 6 and made a lot of bug fixes and improvements to the native UI. Now, Microsoft has rolled out Visual Studio 2022 for Mac Preview 7, and like its predecessors, it includes a slew of bug fixes, UI improvements, and support for more tools.

In Preview 7, Microsoft fixed some stability and crash issues, fixed shortcuts on Spanish keyboard layouts, also ensured that breakpoints work when debugging libraries, and many other things. Microsoft is continuing to use native macOS UI controls and design language in Visual Studio. Preview 7 extends this to cover Snippets, C# code formatting, external tools, and behavior screens for CSS, HTML, and JSON. This basically means that the entire preference UI has been migrated to the native macOS design.

Microsoft has also put a lot of work into the Xamarin mobile tools in this release, having previously stated that it would not accept feedback on Xamarin in Preview 6. The latest release packs over 50 bug fixes for mobile workloads. Microsoft notes that once the Visual Studio 17.0 release reaches General Availability (GA), Xamarin will reach a stable state for developers. However, support for .NET MAUI will not meet this deadline, but Microsoft is continuing to work on it.

Finally, the development of serverless applications using Azure Functions V4 is now supported. Microsoft said:

Adding support for Azure Functions V4 also enables Azure Functions development on M1 (arm64) based processors, which requires arm64 .NET 6 SDK. In this release, users can use on Intel or M1 chip-based devices Azure Functions V4. Azure Functions V2 and V3 projects can be opened and developed on Intel-based processors; support for creating V2 or V3 projects on Intel devices will return in an upcoming preview release.
