Google Analytics: Widely used version will be discontinued soon; users should switch to Google Analytics 4

Millions of websites rely on the services of Google Analytics, which very quickly established itself as the quasi-standard for comprehensive, yet clear traffic analysis. A big change has now been announced because the previously widespread version based on Universal Analytics will only be supported until next summer. Google recommends switching to Analytics 4 as soon as possible.

Google Analytics is one of the company’s older products and shook up the market for webmaster statistics tools many years ago. Suddenly, extensive evaluations were possible, which previously were only possible with in-house solutions or rather expensive statistical tools. Anyone who has used analytics before knows what’s in it and how much you can get out of it. But maybe also how complicated it can be with very complex analyses.

It has now been announced that the very widespread version based on Universal Analytics (these are all properties that begin with the abbreviation UA-) will be discontinued on July 1, 2023. From this date, no new data will be recorded. The statistics recorded so far will remain available for a few months. You should therefore switch to the new Google Analytics 4 very soon in order to have long-term statistics.

Google Analytics 4 is a very big step and has particular strengths in platform-independent tracking, is not only based on cookies and offers many new options and even more extensive evaluations. You can find all the details in Google’s announcement.
