Office Insider 15028.20050 Release: Auto-Refresh Stock Data in Excel

For Current channel users, Microsoft today released Windows Office Insider Preview Build 15028.20050. This update, Version 2203, brings a host of new features to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. With this update, you are now allowed to apply labels when creating or modifying documents, sheets, or presentations, instead of having the default sensitivity labels configured by the administrator as before.

Apply default sensitivity labels when modifying existing files

Until now, default sensitivity labels configured by administrators were automatically applied when files were created. Tags are now applied whenever a document, sheet or presentation is created or modified. Note that other labels may be selected if there are labels that better match the sensitivity of the given file.

The new Office update includes another new feature that allows you to periodically refresh your stock data in the background. However, this is not the default setting. To set this up, right-click a data type in the workbook, then select Data Type > Refresh Settings, and pick your preferred settings.

Excel automatically refresh the worksheet’s stock data

Bringing the stock data type into Excel makes it easy to connect worksheets to the latest stock market data. But if you want to update the linked data, you need to refresh the workbook manually. Too much trouble! We’ve now enabled automatic updates, allowing you to periodically refresh your data in the background while you work. To set this up, just right-click on a data type in the workbook, choose Data Type > Refresh Settings and choose your preferred setting.

In addition, the latest Windows Office preview also improves threaded comments in Excel, giving you the ability to insert hyperlinks in Excel comments. Other than that, the update doesn’t include other new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements.

Add hyperlinks to thread annotations

Thread comments are a great way to discuss Excel worksheets in detail with collaborators. These discussions often reference information or resources found elsewhere, so we’ve added the key feature of inserting hyperlinks in Excel comments. To add a hyperlink to an annotation, simply type or copy in the destination address; the link becomes active in draft mode and is saved when the annotation is published.

All of these features will be available to non-Insider users over the next few months but are currently only available to Office Insiders registered on the Current channel. To update to the latest Microsoft Office Insider Preview Build, open any Office program and go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

Microsoft also recently released an Office Insider update for Mac and iOS users. Like Windows users, Office Insiders on Mac can also hyperlink comments in Excel. In the latest Office Insider update for Mac, the company added a number of new features in addition to the ability to add hyperlinks.
