You may know OBS Studio. This is open-source software that you can use to live stream or record videos in general. As the developers have announced, OBS Studio is now landing on Steam. So that’s another way to get the software.
So they want to offer a certain convenience via Steam, because, for example, the platform allows automatic updates to be distributed in the background. This also makes it easier to obtain the program under macOS.

Of course, the developers can also evaluate user behavior better and also offer you the opportunity to join a beta or obtain release candidates. Initially, the Windows and macOS versions of OBS Studio are available via Steam.
You get the same builds via Steam that you can get directly from the website. Later you would like to distribute your Linux builds via Steam, you are still checking the possibilities and ask for patience. Unfortunately, cloud saves have not yet been made to work.
However, they are working on better ways to import and export OBS data. You can find OBS Studio on Steam here. You can still install plugins, so there shouldn’t be any disadvantages if you get the program via Steam.
