Xbox Series X/S: Minecraft Preview with ray tracing support

Minecraft players on the PC have been able to use ray tracing for a long time – as long as a compatible NVIDIA graphics card is installed. Admittedly, I was blown away at the time and still fascinated by what technology can do with a game and how much better the whole thing looks then. André also had his aha experience, coming from the console, when he saw Cyberpunk with all ray tracing modes on the PC.

But back to Minecraft. Console gamers with an Xbox Series X/S will still have to wait for ray tracing, even if the hardware itself is capable of it. But it looks like there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

The current preview of the game is optimized for the current-gen consoles – at least for some users – and appears to be running with early ray tracing support for a small number of players as well. The Verge’s Tom Warren shows off the feature on Twitter, for example. Of course, it doesn’t look like it does on the PC yet, but work on the feature seems to be going on.
