Google Recorder: New Material You interface for tablets and foldables is being rolled out

The Google Recorder app offered for Pixel smartphones was able to inspire many users right from the start and may have persuaded some to use this type of app at all. As the app continues to soar toward the standard, there’s yet another new design. The Material You design was only recently rolled out and now the landscape mode is being properly drilled out.

So far, Google Recorder was mainly designed for use on smartphones, which are mostly used for this task in portrait mode (upright). Things are a bit different with tablets, foldable and perhaps also smart displays, because the landscape mode dominates there, which can sometimes cause unfortunate adjustments, especially with smartphone apps, or is sometimes not supported at all.

With the latest update, the Google recorder now has such a landscape interface, which you can see in the following screenshots. The action bar, which is normally placed at the bottom edge, moves to the right edge of the display and the main content is stretched as much as possible. It should still be quite easy to use on a smartphone, but it is clearly designed for even larger displays.

It looks very chic and goes well with the Material You designed. Left-handers might be happy if the buttons could be placed on the other side, but they are probably already used to this from countless other apps.
