Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra have another problem that needs to be fixed

Samsung Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra are among the best smartphones in circulation from all points of view, however, the initial stages of their young careers are not exactly going smoothly and now another small problem has emerged that the producer will have to fix quickly, concerning audio-video synchronization.

In the past few days and weeks we have told you about the GOS (Game Optimizing Service) issue, for which Samsung has also come to apologize, then again about the problems with the GPS – which, in the absence of an express mention in the changelog of the April update, we don’t know if they have been solved or not – and the lack of support for Android seamless updates and Android 12’s Performance class 12. Today we see another flaw that Samsung will have to solve.

Samsung Galaxy S22: audio-video synchronization problem

Not even the substantial update of recent days – almost 1.4 GB of OTA files – has managed to fix all the small problems that still plague Samsung’s reference series. One, in particular, has been noticed by quite a few users, both of the Snapdragon and Exynos models, and consists of the desynchronization between audio and video.

The defect in the synchronization between audio and video seems to occur both with connected and without true wireless headphones, although some users have testified that the presence of connected headphones – even Samsung’s own Galaxy Buds2 – seems to further accentuate the problem.

Furthermore, the lack of synchronization does not occur only with a certain application, but rather has been found with services such as YouTube, playing YouTube videos embedded in web pages while browsing with the Google Chrome browser and even playing content with the pre-installed Gallery app. from Samsung on their devices. Just to dissect all the possible details of the matter, the problem does not seem in any way connected with the South Korean manufacturer’s “Processing speed” toggle, since it can be found regardless of whether the aforementioned option is active or not.

As regards the actual occurrence of the problem described, following a series of tests performed, a slight but not decisive difference in behavior was found which also seems to depend on the application each time used to reproduce contents and on the fact that the audio reproduction occurs or not via wireless headphones. In one way or another, in a more or less accentuated way due to these factors, the result is always the same: the reproduced video jerks and the audio loses synchronization.

Examples and possible causes

The example given by the source demonstrates how the problem in question can heavily affect the quality of the daily user experience of smartphones (above all) of this caliber and price range: every time a silenced video is played in the Gallery and it is reactivated audio, the image freezes and clicks for a split second, while the audio goes on anyway. Sometimes audio and a video get back into sync after a few moments, but other times they don’t.

Another example concerns YouTube and in particular the change in the resolution of the video being played. Given the variety of situations in which the problem occurs and taking into account all the factors whose causality has been excluded, there remains uncertainty about the real cause of the problem – it could be a codec or a video acceleration problem, or something else that can be solved by a firmware update – and certainty that Samsung needs to intervene soon.

While waiting for the manufacturer to have their say on this new issue and maybe release a dedicated fix, tell us in the comments if you too have had problems of this type with your Galaxy S22. [Update of 02/04/22 at 14:56] Numerous users are reporting to us that on their Galaxy S22 the problem, previously present, has actually been solved with the update of April 2022.
