Microsoft Windows 11/10’s new One Outlook app is about to be previewed: unify all mail

According to the latest reports, as part of the work to refresh Windows 11 native applications, Microsoft is planning to release a new Outlook service. The app is being made from the ground up and will be available in preview soon, which will likely be announced at Microsoft’s Windows 11 Hybrid event.

Called “Project Monarch,” the new Outlook has been in development for over a year. This is a reboot of the web app to unify all existing Windows email clients such as Mail and Calendar as well as the desktop version of Outlook. With One Outlook, Microsoft hopes to help users manage their email across different desktop platforms.

There are many ways to access a user’s work and personal email. Users can use the Outlook web app, Outlook desktop, and even Google Gmail. There are too many mail apps available for Windows, and that’s because Microsoft has a habit of releasing more than one app that does the same thing.

In Windows 10 and above, the Mail and Calendar app is built-in with a sleek design, but it doesn’t support advanced features. If users want to get the most complete Outlook experience, they need to download an application called Outlook and use a Microsoft 365 account to check their mail.

This can be complicated for new users, and Microsoft decided it was time to unify the Outlook application and create a new iterative email client with Project Monarch. The new app is expected to enter public preview soon, as the leaked installer has been updated to reflect changes to the upcoming public beta program.

Introducing the new Outlook application – One Outlook

So, what is One Outlook? This is a new Outlook client based on the web platform, and Microsoft is planning to integrate all mail applications into a unified application “One Outlook” to help users manage mail in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

The new One Outlook app was first spotted in leaked documents in January 2021, with screenshots showing a new design similar to the web app. It will have rounded corners, WinUI, and improvements to Microsoft Edge.

As you can see in the GIF image above, One Outlook has a new loading animation, which is the same as the web version. The One Outlook app isn’t available to the public just yet, but it’s likely to be released to the public in the coming weeks.
