PS5: Acquisition and backwards compatibility, still rumors about new Sony announcement

The presentation of the new subscription plan dedicated to PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now was preceded by an extensive review of rumors and indiscretions, which turned out to be partly correct.

The latter had in fact identified three new announcements from Sony as imminent, including the reveal of the new PS Plus, known in the sector by the codename of PlayStation Spartacus. Of the two remaining alleged communications, however, no news was received. However, this has not prevented rumors from continuing to run, through numerous insiders.

Among the latter, we also find Tidux, a source that has been following the PlayStation universe for a long time with particular interest. According to a twitter published by the latter, at the moment there are three possible areas in which Sony is preparing to make an announcement:

  • Backward compatibility for PlayStation Vita games: according to the insider, the latter could become available on PS5 in the course of 2023;
  • PlayStation 3 game emulation: Sony is still working hard to make it possible;
  • Acquisitions: according to the insider, Sony would have acquired a videogame publisher;

At the moment, of course, none of these hypotheses has been confirmed by the Japanese giant, which however recently reiterated that other acquisitions will arrive for PlayStation Studios.
