Nearly 17% of Steam users prefer to play games on Windows 11

Steam has released the results of its monthly hardware health survey among PC gamers. According to March 2022 data, Windows 11 continues to climb, continuing to take users away from Windows 10. About 16.84% of Steam users now use Windows 11. The operating system gained 1.25% in March 2022 (15.59% in February 2022), mainly due to Windows 10 users upgrading their PCs to newer operating systems.

Despite the growing preference among gamers, Windows 11 has been somewhat stagnant in the global market. The latest data from AdDuplex shows that the operating system has barely gained any users globally in March 2022.

While Windows 10 lost some ground in March, it’s still the dominant OS across Steam. In the last month, 74.69% (-1.00) of Steam customers reported using Windows 10. Windows 7 64-bit is the third most popular operating system on Steam. Although it has been officially stopped for more than two years now, it still accounts for 4.14% (+0.06).

Overall, Windows has a 96.57% (+0.21) share on Steam. Apple ‘s macOS came in second with 2.43% (-0.19) and Linux had 1.00% (-0.02). Here are the most popular hardware configurations on Steam as of March 2022:
