Code in iOS 15.5 beta shows Apple Classical music app may be coming soon

According to code found in the latest iOS beta, there is more evidence that the planned Apple Music expansion upgrade will be called Apple Classic. When it acquired the Primephonic service, Apple was unusually open about how it planned to improve the way Apple Music handles classical music. The company said it planned to launch a classical music app in 2022, but did not say when or what it would be called.

Now, following the first sighting of the Apple Classical name in Apple Music’s Android beta, the same name has also been spotted in the iOS 15.5 developer beta. In addition to the name, the code snippet discovered on Tuesday includes three pieces of information that would be displayed to the user on the screen once such an application was launched:

  • Open in apple classic
  • Open this thing in a new app designed for classical music
  • Shortcuts to Apple Classics

So far, no “Apple Classic” apps have been released, even in beta. The presence of this information suggests that it may appear soon. This specific information also hints at how the app might operate.

For example, Apple Music currently includes classical music, but it has been the weakest part of the service. This is because any piece of classical music can appear on many different albums, and is sure to be recorded or even rearranged by many different labels and orchestras.

Information about opening a track in the new app could mean that when Apple Music users find a classical track, they’ll be prompted to listen to it in “Apple Classics,” which is more focused on that category.
