Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be the first flagship with the new Sony IMX800 sensor

We have already talked abundantly about the new collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica that will culminate with Xiaomi 12 Ultra, a smartphone on which expectations are enormous, especially as regards the photographic sector.

We know a lot of details about the smartphone, from the materials with which its rear body will be made, to the technical specifications that will distinguish it (among which the 6.73-inch E5 LTPO 2.0 display with 2K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate produced by Samsung, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC).

By force of things, new updates are constantly arriving on what will be the absolute level photographic sector of the smartphone: the latest news in chronological order, asserts that the 50 MP photographic sensor, chosen by Xiaomi and Leica to equip the Xiaomi 12 Ultra it will be the brand new Sony IMX800; it is a 1 / 1.1-inch sensor, the largest photographic sensor intended for the mobile field presented so far.

I know it might be obvious to many of you, but the size of a sensor determines how much light the camera can capture to recreate the image – more light means better images. This aspect could already put the Xiaomi 12 Ultra on the right path.

Although the rumors leaked so far spoke of a photographic sector consisting of 3 cameras (main + wide-angle + periscope), some rumors would push towards a system consisting of four or even five cameras to assist the main 50-megapixel sensor. We will know more soon since the rumors about the next Xiaomi 12 Ultra are practically on the agenda.

The Redmi Note 12 family could raise the bar in the mid-range

Within an increasingly crowded mid-range, smartphones from the Xiaomi panorama constantly find their place, with the Redmi Note series constantly trying to carve out a leading role.

Thanks to a post on the Weibo social network by the leaker Digital Chat Station, we learn that two new Xiaomi smartphones, marked with model codes 22041216UC and 22041216C, have obtained licenses for access to the network and that it could be just two smartphones of the upcoming Redmi Note 12 series.

Given the choice, sometimes infamous, of Xiaomi in assigning the names to its mid-range smartphones, it is not easy to hypothesize with which (or which) name these two smartphones will be presented. The only certainty that seems to be leaking is that Xiaomi is willing to raise the bar in terms of performance.

The new mid-range of the Redmi Note 12 series will be equipped with a high-end MediaTek SoC, with doubts restricting the possibilities to Dimensity 1300 or Dimensity 8000: the first is a 6 nm SoC (produced by TSMC) with CPU octa-core capable of going up to 3.0 GHz; the second is, instead, a more peaceful version of the Dimensity 8100 and it is a 5 nm SoC (produced by TSMC) with octa-core CPU capable of going up to 2.75 GHz (against 2.85 GHz of the 8100 model ).

The certifications show that both smartphones will support 5G networks.

When will Xiaomi 12 Ultra and Redmi Note 12 arrive?

According to what has been leaked so far, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship could debut in June with the arrival of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. The two smartphones of the Redmi Note 12 family, on the other hand, could be presented (in China) as early as next month, to then be put on sale in the summer, between June and July 2022.

There is a lot of anticipation to get to know these new devices, especially for the first fruit of Xiaomi’s collaboration with Leica. We will notify you in case of further news on these smartphones.
